Mabel Hunter Scholarship

The Mable Hunter Scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis by the Sedgefield Woman’s Club. This scholarship is awarded based on the candidate’s character, scholastic records, evidence of intellectual promise, demonstration of ambition and leadership ability, and the need for financial assistance. This scholarship awards $2,000 for a first-place recipient for tuition for pursuit of a technical degree, diploma or certification program.

Mary Eakes Scholarships

The Mary Eakes Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis by the Sedgefield Woman’s Club. These scholarships are awarded based on the candidate’s character, scholastic records, evidence of intellectual promise, demonstration of ambition and leadership ability, and the need for financial assistance. This scholarship awards a one-time sum of $4,000 for a first-place recipient and a $1,000 one-time sum for a second-place recipient for their freshman year at an accredited four-year college or university in the state of North Carolina. The first-place winner of the Mary Eakes Scholarship will also be eligible to compete for the NC Federation of Woman’s Club District 4 Scholarship. The winner of the District 4 scholarship will be eligible for the Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship on the State Level. This is awarded by the North Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs and is $3,000 per year for a total of $12,000.

The Education and Libraries Committee is excited to share the news…Our Mabel Hunter Scholarship 1st Place winner from Ragsdale High School is Jamie Cook. She will be attendingGTCC and studying cosmetology. As the Mabel Hunter scholarship winner, Mabel will receive $2,000 in scholarship funds.

The 2023 Mary Eakes Scholarship Winners

Ghina Mohammad

The Education and Libraries Committee is excited to share the news…Our Mary Eakes Scholarship 1st Place winner from Ragsdale High School is Ghina Mohammad. She will be attending Duke University and major in chemistry on a pre-med or pre-dental track. As the Mary Eakes scholarship winner, Ghina will receive $4,000 in scholarship funds.
Ghina competed in the District 4 Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship and she won 1st Place! Ghina will receive $2,500 in scholarship funds.
Nytashia Graham

Our 2nd place winner of the Mary Eakes Scholarship, Nytashia Graham, is planning to attend Winston Salem State University and plans to major in nursing. She will receive $1,000 in scholarship funds.

Lily Butler

The Education and Libraries Committee is excited to share the news…Our Mary Eakes Scholarship 1st Place winner from Ragsdale High School is Lily Butler. She will be attending University of North Carolina, Charlotte. As the Mary Eakes scholarship winner, Lily will receive $4,000 in scholarship funds.
Lily competed in the District 4 Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship and she won 1st Place! Lily will receive $2,500 in scholarship funds.
Robert Tars

Our 2nd place winner of the Mary Eakes Scholarship, Robert Tars, is planning to attend University of North Carolina, Wilmington and plans to major in exercise science and participate on the swim team. He will receive $1,000.00 in scholarship funds.
